How does epoxy resin work?

Have you fallen in love with 3D-effect floors and want to know how epoxy resin works? At Epoxy Montérégie, we are among the top professionals in the coating market. We will explain how it works.

Epoxy resin, the preferred product of interior designers

Epoxy resin is now the preferred choice of all interior designers. It is no surprise that this incredible finish offers many benefits to its owner, and these go beyond its great beauty.

For optimal results, you need to work with a pro

We are not going to lie to you: installing epoxy floor coatings is relatively simple, and anyone with basic flooring skills should be able to do it.

However, to achieve all the technical specifications of the perfect coating, it is best to turn to professionals and, better yet, to buy from the most sought-after coating service on the market.

Epoxy-coated floors offer a finish that gives an impression of great depth and transparency.

In this article, we will explain how epoxy resin is involved in the development of the work to achieve this captivating effect in floor coatings.

1. Surface preparation
Installation begins with a complete cleaning of the room. Once we have access to all parts of the floor, we vacuum the room and make sure it is free of dust and any other material before starting the work.

If there are cracks or other damage to the concrete surface, we will make sure to repair them before installing the coating, and also ensure that the concrete surface is free of grease, oil, or solvents before installing epoxy floor coatings.

All of these elements can reduce epoxy adhesion to concrete. It will also be necessary to create physical profiles throughout the basement to increase adhesion during surface preparation.

2. Priming process
Primer is used before applying the epoxy coating and is intended to ensure good adhesion to the concrete. Since the base material is diluted, it has a low viscosity and can therefore adhere better.

Applying at least two coats of floor coating is essential to achieve the best results in terms of tone and color. If the surface is contaminated, a special primer must also be used.

In addition, given that floor coatings are thin, if the concrete surface is uneven, it should be leveled before applying the self-adhesive floor coatings.

3. Mix the epoxy resin materials
At this stage, we will stir the main components separately to make them more uniform, and we will also add the second ingredient to preserve the original color.

To do this, we will stir the entire mixture with an electric mixer at medium speed. It takes about 30 minutes from the start of the mixing process to apply the epoxy floor coating.

4. Application of epoxy resin-based floor coatings
It should be noted that in small spaces, such as a garage, the floor coating can be applied once to the floor. In larger spaces, however, it is recommended to use epoxy foam at least twice.
5. Apply the second coat of floor coating with epoxy resin.
For the final step, you must wait at least 12 hours before beginning the step of applying the second coat.

However, applying the second coat must not exceed 48 hours after laying the first coat, as this would reduce adhesion between the two coats.

As leaders in the flooring industry, these are the standards we work to.

Finally, if you are considering renovating your home, we can assure you that epoxy floors are a very successful alternative to ceramic and marble floors.

They are mainly characterized by offering a wide range of colors that suit different décors, as well as the possibility of using patterns and gradients that match wall colors very well.

In short, epoxy floors are highly resistant and improve concrete strength by up to seven times. This type of floor coating has the best adhesion to concrete and can last much longer than others.
